We invite you to join Geshe Michael Roach as he unveils the new Global Wealth Initiative. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution wealth and power have become increasingly concentrated. Now, fewer and fewer nations control the world’s wealth and consume a growing portion of the world’s resources leading to economic hardship, growing political unrest, ill will, violence and war. Sadly these conditions are based on a fundamental misunderstanding about how wealth is actually created and distributed. The global economy assumes that wealth is in some way fixed and that in order for one nation to have more others must have less. The results of this type of thinking include extreme pressure on wages, working conditions, health, and education— things considered to be inputs or costs of production resulting in terrible and needless suffering and hardship for much of the world’s peoples.

We now understand that the traditional methods for creating wealth are in fact not the causes for wealth but rather circumstances surrounding its creation. The test for causality is simple. If one thing causes another then it must produce the same result every time for everyone. We come to understand that social and economic oppression cannot be a cause for wealth; they are too different from wealth and they do not work every time. Instead, we conclude that the real cause for one person or one nation to have wealth is their giving or generosity toward others. These are similar and we see that they do work every time.

The Global Wealth Initiative (GWI) will amend the world’s thinking about the creation and sustenance of wealth through education, training, demonstration and diplomacy. GWI invites individuals, organizations, corporations and nations to embrace a new understanding based on the fundamental truth that industrialized and industrializing nations must take responsibility and care for all of the participants in today’s global markets—not as a cost of doing business but as the very cause for success. Only through ensuring that all people have access to food, clothing, education, healthcare and other essentials can wealth and peace be created and sustained over time.

GESHE MICHAEL ROACH

Michael Roach graduated from Princeton University and in 1981 joined the newly formed Andin International Diamond Corporation. Beginning as a simple messenger, he applied the principles of The Diamond Cutter to every aspect of his work. He was promoted often, reaching the ranks of vice president responsible for a worldwide business in what became one of the world's largest diamond and jewelry firms, grossing more than $100 million per year. The "secrets" of this success are revealed in The Diamond Cutter, recently released in paperback by Doubleday. Geshe Michael is also a Buddhist monk who has been teaching Buddhism for more than twenty years and founded the Enlightened Business Institute, the Asian Classics Input Project and many other non profit organizations.

INSTRUCTOR

Gary Hirsch is President of the Enlightened Business Institute, a management consultant trainer and professional business coach. He has served as Vice President for two management consulting firms, providing more than $15 million in services for a diverse group of clients including the United States Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Southern Company, Con Edison, the Tennessee Valley Authority and more. Prior to his consulting career he served in executive management in Washington State government. He has been recognized by Governors, CEO's and Agency Directors for excellence in leadership, sales and management. He teaches at Diamond Mountain University and is a student of Geshe Michael Roach.

He has advised governors and legislators on energy matters and is currently President and a Director of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, an association of energy businesses. Mr. Hirsch is a student of Geshe Michael Roach and has a B.A. in Energy Engineering and Policy from the Evergreen State College. He has served as Director on the boards of several northwest non-profit organizations.
